Custom 8ft Walnut Tippi Dining Table in Nichols Hills

The Project Overview

For this custom furniture commission, we had the pleasure of working with a homeowner in the historic Nichols Hills neighborhood to design and build a centerpiece for their newly renovated dining space. The goal was to create a table that offered a striking, modern organic aesthetic while providing enough seating for large family gatherings.

We selected the Tippi Dining Table silhouette, scaling it to an expansive 8-foot length (96 inches) to perfectly balance the scale and architecture of the room."

  • Features: 1.25” thick tabletop, 3.5” precision tapered legs, and signature solid brass feet accents.

  • Finish: Commercial-grade, catalyzed conversion protective finish in a matte sheen (engineered to handle daily family life and spills without losing the wood's natural depth).

Building for Oklahoma's dramatic climate requires intentional engineering. Because mass-produced retail furniture relies on veneers and particle board, it struggles with our seasonal humidity swings. At the Graeber Design workshop, this table was individually handcrafted using 100% solid hardwood.

For this build, we utilized continuous grain sequencing, hand-selecting wide-plank Black Walnut boards so the rich, chocolate wood grain flows seamlessly across the entire 8-foot surface. The legs are joined using architectural, traditional joinery that allows the timber to breathe and move naturally through Oklahoma winters and summers without ever warping or cracking. It's a true heirloom piece built to last for generations."

Delivery & Context

We provided white-glove delivery and setup directly to the client’s home in Nichols Hills. Seeing the rich tones of the solid walnut interact with the natural light of the room was the perfect conclusion to this collaborative design process
